Why Pangea Social Has a Quality of Writing Score that Rates “Big Mind”

Cognitive Relativity is a new kind of AI invented by Pangea Social that predicts where narrative arcs in text bend into cognitive black holes.

These black holes form around anger created by moral outrage, which is the main optimization setting for ad-supported social networks like Facebook, X/Twitter, and Reddit. Cognitive Relativity is designed to show writers where they are veering toward authoritarian thinking.

The algorithm highlights areas of text that are either biased or digressed, and it also detects areas of writing that deliver a strong thesis statement, along with supporting, clarifying statements.

Dictators, cult leaders, and hucksters of all kinds love to pitch their ideas using close-minded, biased ideas that show up in the Cognitive Relativity dictionary as the end of branches in a language tree.

These closed-minded ends of the branches are words that dictators and politicians love because they force the reader or listener to use emotion and anger more than logic or reason.

Cognitive Relativity AI is driven by an algorithm that attempts to interpret and express the natural, biologically driven way that humans think and tell stories using both their hearts and their minds.

The mathematical framework for Cognitive Relativity is to human cognition, what the theory of general relativity is to physics, or what DNA is to biology.

Pangea Social currently delivers Cognitive Relativity via an AI-powered writing editor or via a SaaS API.

Text is rated using the proprietary language model in their AI and it is given a Pangea Score. High-scoring text exhibits a combination of coherence and openness as described in the Sōtō Zen Buddhist philosophy of Big MindBig Mind is not swayed by biases or preferences. While Enlightenment philosophy is very closely aligned with the Cognitive Relativity algorithm, the Zen idea called Big Mind is actually even closer, as it values the integration of both rational and heart-centered thinking combined with an openness to new ideas and an inventive spirit.

The Enlightenment philosopher who had the greatest influence on Cognitive Relativity, is Scottish philosopher Francis Hutcheson, who believed that which arouses the pleasurable experience we call Beauty, is the perception of "unity in difference". It’s not a big leap from there to the official motto of the United States, E Pluribus Unum.

Hutcheson even described a mathematical formula for Beauty, which is a core function used in how Cognitive Relativity computes Big Mind as part of the Pangea Score. He wrote:

“[W]hat we call beautiful in objects, to speak in the mathematical style, seems to be a compound ratio of uniformity and variety: so that where the uniformity of bodies is equal, the beauty is as the variety; and where the variety is equal, the beauty is as the uniformity.”

Yet, for all of the good unleashed on the world by the Enlightenment, the Big Mind philosophy includes greater seeds of empathy and harmony with nature.

Pangea Social's AI is designed to help writers create more open-minded and creative copy by combining the best of Enlightenment and Zen Buddhist philosophy to create a tool that values both rational and heart-centered thinking, designed to help make online conversations more civil and inspiring than the often toxic debates and trolling that dominate social media today.
